Music on the Move! is an
interactive music enrichment program that focuses on general music
concepts, singing and just plain having fun on some instruments. The
purpose of Music on the Move! is to create a fun, educational
framework that will help to instill a lifelong love of music in
children through improvisation, creativity and self-discovery.
Though we do not teach formal music theory in MOTM, we do
incorporate its concepts in all of the activities including:
rhythm, harmony, melody, structure, and texture. Activities
also encourage creativity/imagination, teamwork, problem solving,
cultural awareness, and more.
9–Week Schedule: (8 weeks instruction +
performance on the 9th week)
-
Basic rhythms: What is a rhythm?
Moving to the rhythm. Copy my beat. Follow my rhythm. How do
style/cultural influences affect music? What is your style?
-
Singing scales: Singing together.
Singing parts.
-
What is a melody? What melodies
do you know? Sing the notes in key.
-
How is a song built? What are the
different parts of a song? What is a chorus? What is a verse?
Composing: building the house of a song.
-
What do you hear in the song?
What instruments are there? Identify the voices. Let’s play a piece
with different instruments. Let’s drop out instruments to hear
texture.
-
Let’s play a song and draw what we
hear: What is the rhythm in the art? How does it change when we
change tempo and style?
-
Language development and the ABC
quick word game: Let’s be spontaneous and yell out a word for the
letters of the alphabet. What kind of words (lyrics) can we think of?
-
Let’s be spontaneous with scatting
and improvisation: Move and sing what you hear and feel.
-
Performance for family, friends and staff.
